Your friends at the CFA are saddened to share the following news regarding the death of our fearless leader, Derek Gordon. His efforts for not only CFA member organizations, but all arts organizations in Baton Rouge, as well as individual artists, will live on through the amazing staff of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, and all those he inspired professionally and personally. He was an amazing man, a fearless leader, an entertainer, and a beyond-great singer of Happy Birthday (among other songs). :

The staff of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge deeply regrets the passing of our CEO, Derek Gordon. His legacy is great and we will continue to honor Derek by upholding his passion for the arts and his desire to make our community a great one for artists and patrons of the arts. We thank each of you for your prayers and continued support.

A Mass celebrating Derek Gordon’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph downtown, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Derek E. Gordon Arts Fund through the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
