ACG congratulates Dr. David Dismukes in recently receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Florida’s Public Utility Research Center (“PURC”). The award was given last week at PURC’s annual conference “Future-Ready Florida: Utilities in a Digital Era.”
PURC describes this award as recognizing contributions to the understanding of regulatory economics and finance, and the cumulative impact of research and policy analysis on both academics and policymakers. While there have been many past academic winners, the award also recognizes professional contributions that materially improve the practice of regulation. However, in a few instances, like this year’s current award, the honor recognizes someone who has operated in both applied and academic worlds.
Congratulations to David on the highly prestigious award.

ACG was in the classroom last week down at the Tulane University Energy Program in New Orleans
Carlos Sandoval and Blake Edwards joined Professor John Foreman III’s ENRG 7850 (Renewables & Grid Integration) course in Tulane’s Master of Energy Management program to walk through how energy regulation works in practice. The conversation focused on how regulatory structure drives investment decisions and long-term planning.
They covered:
How regulators balance affordability, reliability, and capital investment in rate cases
The regulatory process of gaining new generation assets.
The relationship between capacity markets and the grid
The difference between regulated and restructured market
How rapid data center-driven load growth is changing forecasts and long-term reliability planning
It was a great opportunity to give students a real world look at pressing energy challeges
Great job for
Carlos and Blake!
