As Southern University and A&M College returns to normal operations today, Southern University System Interim President Orlando F. McMeans visited several locations across the Southern University Baton Rouge landmass last week to personally check on the progress of power restoration efforts.

President McMeans toured residential buildings that had been operating on generators and have now been successfully transitioned back to the University’s electrical distribution system, as well as academic buildings that had been without power.

University leadership and SUBR Facilities Services remain focused on maintaining reliable service and a safe campus environment.

Southern University is closed in observance of Labor Day. Campus will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY CAMPUS POWER OUTAGE — Delayed Start

The Southern University Baton Rouge landmass is currently experiencing a power outage. Crews are assessing the situation, and there is not yet an estimated time for power restoration.

Southern University Baton Rouge, the Southern University Law Center, and SU Ag Center will have a delayed start today, with campus operations and classes beginning at 1 p.m.

Southern University Laboratory School will be closed for the day.

Limited meal service is available at Mayberry and Dunn Dining Halls.

Move-in days across the Southern University System brought students, families and campus communities together as a new academic year got underway.

Southern University Law Center and Southern University at New Orleans have officially launched a 3+3 Accelerated Law Program, creating a streamlined pathway for qualified SUNO students to earn their bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor while preparing for careers in law, public service, advocacy, and leadership.

Together, we're expanding access to legal education, strengthening the pipeline of future attorneys, and continuing our commitment to producing lawyer leaders.

As we continue shaping the future of the Southern University System, Interim President Orlando McMeans joined colleagues from across the System at the Southern University Board of Supervisors' Annual Retreat last week in New Orleans.

Dr. McMeans led a thoughtful and forward-looking presentation outlining the System's priorities, progress, and strategic vision for the year ahead. The retreat provided an important opportunity for the Board, university leadership, and executive team to engage in meaningful dialogue, align on shared goals, and reaffirm our commitment to student success, academic excellence, and service to Louisiana.
