Louisiana APSE is a chapter of national APSE advocating for employment for people with disabilities. In 2008, the name changed again to APSE.

APSE has chapters in 35 states and the District of Columbia. Our members come from all 50 states and Puerto Rico, as well as several foreign countries. APSE's HR Connect offers consultation services to help businesses reach out to and partner with one of the strongest labor and customer pools in the country: the disability community. Self-Employment: Deeper Dive Training Series

These modules provide vocational rehabilitation counselors with information about topics that often come up when supporting a VR customer with self-employment. Topics currently covered in the series include the basics of business structures, the effect of self-employment on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and the effect of self-employment on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

Counselors are encouraged to complete all the modules but have the option to complete the one they need the most.

The VCU Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) proudly recognizes the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act this week!

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26,1990 by President George H.W. Bush. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

For students with autism, a task analysis will be one of the most valuable strategies in the educator’s toolbox.

A task analysis is not a task list or a checklist for the student but rather a tool for the person teaching the new skill. A task analysis provides structure, ensuring that a skill is taught the same way each time the student engages in the activity or task. It is important to run through the task with student to see how they may choose to complete the task. Using a well-written TA as part of an instructional program can provide the consistency that is needed for skill acquisition and can be used to teach virtually any type of skill!
