I was sitting on a plane, headed for London, when I received word that Charlie Kirk had been shot. Disbelief quickly turned to horror that led to great sorrow. First, for his wife and children. Second, for this generation. Third, for our country.

By the time I landed, my sorrow turned to grief, as I learned Charlie had left for Heaven. It was strange to process this American tragedy in a foreign land, although I soon discovered that his message had also reached beyond our borders.

For you see, I had been a keynote speaker in July for the Turning Point Education Summit in Tampa, FL. I was privileged to meet many of the team that work tirelessly to bring Charlie’s dream to fruition—using Truth to cut through the lies this generation is bombarded with in every sector of our broken culture.

Charlie moved through the conference with ease and humble confidence as he stopped to speak to anyone who called for his attention. I attended the evening events with more than 5,000 young people gathered to celebrate faith, freedom and family. Hearing those collective voices shout “USA, USA,” in unison, brought tears to my eyes and hope to my heart.

By divine providence, “Moral Courage: It’s a Heart Issue,” was the topic of my talk. As an example of moral courage, I shared the story of a young frontline soldier I had met in the Atlanta airport many years ago. After several hours of conversation due to a long weather delay, I asked if he was afraid of dying during combat. His response, “Oh, no, ma’am. I’m more afraid of failing than dying because if I fail, someone else might die.”

No doubt, Charlie Kirk would have answered in the same way.

Charlie fought the good fight with compassionate words, as a StrongHeart, filled with moral courage, grounded in Truth, and fortified with self-respect.

Our love and prayers go out to Erika and those precious children that God will strengthen their hearts as He grows them up in “wisdom and stature and favor with Himself and their fellow man.”

With Great Respect,
Jill
