The #1 thing to know before tree shopping: Measurements
Before you visit the Christmas tree lot, be sure to measure the room area in which you plan to put your tree. Measure the height of your ceiling, then subtract an extra 12 to 18 inches for the tree stand at the bottom and a star or angel on top for the tree height that will fit your area. And don’t forget to measure the width of the space. If your space is limited and you need to squeeze a tree into a corner, choose a narrower tree. Outside amongst all the other trees on the lot, the tree of your dreams might not appear as big as it truly is. Stick to your measurements!
Pro Tip: Elevation is a good option for homes with crawling babies or pets, or if you have a fixed budget for your tree this year. Buy a shorter 5 foot tree and elevate it on a side table or sturdy tall basket. This will get it up off the ground and still give an impressive height and presence in the room.
