Getting some garden prep done on the farm

I just pulled up some more carrots from our own garden from last year. Usually we like to keep them in the ground til we use them, but since weโve moved it was easier to harvest them.

A lot of times people ask me why the trick is for carrots. Honestly I think it just comes down to soil. Where we have had the most success on our homestead has been in a much looser soil. Itโs actually where years of horse manure and wood bedding has been dumped and has created a nice fluffy soil. If you are planting carrots into clay, itโs not going to bode well. Just think, you want to make it easy for those carrots to reach straight down. If you are looking for something to break up compacted soil, try a daikon radish. Those do a great job of breaking up soil and growing big and deep.

We still have our garlic from last year!
This warmer weather is a good reminder, spring is coming!!! Hopefully you ordered your seeds! While we resettle, we might not do an annual garden this year, however, perennials are definitely on the list. So we plan to do in our own personal garden are Thornless blackberries, strawberries, raspberries. Perennial cane fruit is super easy to grow, inexpensive, and the gift that keeps on giving every year. ๐๐ซ
