Access to food, water and health services have been blocked through sieges as a method of war, forcing millions of people – mostly women and children – to flee. According to the UN, 70% of the population is without access to adequate drinking water, one in three people are unable to meet their basic food needs, and more than 2 million children are out of school, and four out of five people live in poverty. MPP was established on the tenet that each of us – no matter what our position – can and should embrace a role in the repair of the world. Founded by two musicians, Steinway Artist Esteban Alvarez and Willie Everett, who both believe that because music inherently transmits a positive message, carrying with it an energy that elevates humankind, Austin for Peace would best enable them to embark in the cause of making a difference in the world by promoting peace.
