👉 How I approach this (also known as the 3x3x3 capsule wardrobe or packing method):

👟 1. Start with shoes. I don’t do this for something like a beach vacation, but this is critical for any sightseeing trip like a city or Europe trip. A supportive, versatile and stylish sneaker is KEY will serve as the “anchor” shoe of your travel capsule. You don’t need 3 pairs of shoes, but I like options.

👖 2. Choose 3 travel-friendly bottoms that work with the shoes. They don’t need to go with all the shoes, but should at least work with the “anchor shoe.” This means pants that are the right length, and skirts/dresses that work with sneakers.

🧥 3. Pick 3 layering pieces which can range from jackets, to sweaters, to a lightweight linen shirt or wrap for summer. For spring travel, I love a longer trench coat, a shorter jacket or blazer, and a cardigan that can also be thrown over the shoulders if it’s warm out.

👕 4. Tops are last but should still be thoughtfully chosen. I’m picking quality tops that layer well under pieces, but still have enough shape and structure to look good worn on their own. If you tend to get sweaty, then pack extra tops.

🧣 5. Lastly, an easy way to add print and patterns without needing much space is through silk & cotton scarves, which can be super versatile. Wear them around your neck, waist, shoulders, or as an accent on your purse.
