Summer is here and Sign With Katy will be at Cary Area Public Library in both June & July '26!

Baby Fair 2026 is coming this April 25th! I'll be presenting a sign language "baby & me" activity at 10:30a and again at 11a. This entire event is a WONDERFUL place to gather resources, information, or just have fun with your 0-2 year olds. See the Library's website for more details. Can't wait to see you!

I was honored to have an interview with at the start of the season focusing on the importance of signing with babies.

When do I plan to stop signing with my toddler? Never. It's a "secret language" I hope to strengthen for us as he gets older but it's also incredibly useful if he encounters anyone else using sign language, which helps make the world more accessible to all (D/deaf, hard of hearing, hearing, those with varying abilities). It's also helpful in loud settings (concerts, near a lawn mower, fireworks, communicating from boat to boat), while scuba diving, through a glass window, if you lose your voice from being sick, most of us will all lose our hearing as we age, and the list goes on.

Sign language is unwaveringly beneficial to all.

Did you know, building a child's vocabulary (through literature and play) is key at a young age. All language is good language. A visual langauge, like sign language, benefits ALL children and all people of all ability levels.
