Welcome to Thuya Lodge! 🏑

Joseph Henry Curtis began building Thuya Lodge in 1912 as a summer cottage on Asticou Hill in Northeast Harbor. The interior combines the popular rustic style with Curtis own elegant furnishings from his previous residences. The Lodge was completed in 1914. Curtis derived the name Thuya from the locally abundant cedar trees. The Lodge and adjacent 20 acres were left in trust by Curtis upon his death in 1928 to benefit the inhabitants of the town of Mount Desert. The Lodge was opened to the public in 1931.
