More locally-designed games we love: Wingspan and Wyrmspan!

The designer of the original "-span" game is the one and only Silver Spring-based Elizabeth Hargrave, and we love all of her games. We have her games Undergrove and Sanibel right now, too! Since Wingspan came out in 2019, it quickly became what we'd call a "modern classic" and a good way to bridge the gap between the old classics like Monopoly and Catan and games that let you explore the board game hobby a bit more. It's fun for all ages and board game experience levels, and it lets you collect ALL the pretty birds!

The spinoff game Wyrmspan was designed by a DC-local, Connie Vogelmann. Wyrmspan lets you collect dragons instead and really gets into a fun meatier version of the game. If you come in and ask us staff about these two games when there's a few of us here, you're sure to start an argument about whether we like Wingspan or Wyrmspan better! Connie also designed a staff favorite, Apiary, that's currently out of stock, but we'll have it back in as soon as we can get it.

Next Saturday is Family Board Game Day! Get away from your screens and come learn to play some board games as a family with Dan and the Canton Games family.

Locally-designed game of the day: We're Sinking!

We're Sinking! is a brand new board game from ​Ludamus Games in northern VA. You're playing as pirates on a ship under attack, trying to survive and balance firing back, fixing the ship, bucketing the rising water, and grabbing as much treasure as you can before the other pirates do. You can work together to save the ship or play greedy and save yourself. As a collector of pirate-themed games, this one has Dan's seal of approval!
