This July, I have the awesome opportunity to travel to Ghana and serve as a missionary with the Women Unveiled Missions Team. We are providing funds to assist with providing sanitary pads and menstrual education to teenage girls and young adult women.

Period poverty is a real situation in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana.

There is roughly a 20% import tax on menstrual products, making these products inaccessible to girls and women in need, especially those in low-income households.

As a result:

After taking care of household responsibilities, most families simply cannot make a sacrifice for sanitary pads.
Mothers and daughters often end up sharing cloth pads that are hand washed between use, which is not a hygienic practice.
The lack of access to proper sanitary material leads them often missing school and work during their menstrual cycles.
