It was a busy Third Sunday After Pentecost at St. John this morning. We had another baptism and the kids got to check out our ….or, should we say, 🦋

The caterpillars have transformed and are now beautiful Monarch butterflies. God is truly amazing!

Later today, we will take them to Filbert Street Garden to release them so they can pollinate their plants. Stay tuned!

It was a busy Second Sunday After Pentecost at St. John today. We welcomed a new member to our Congregation and had a baptism.

We also checked on our monarch caterpillar enclosure and discovered that they have gotten their fill of milkweed and have entered their chrysalis stage. Soon they will emerge and be butterflies! What a wonderful reminder of God’s amazing creation 🐛

☀️ Summer is upon us in Maryland, but it’ll be nice and cool at St. John due to our new HVAC system in the Social Hall installed by Green Comfort Systems. This new energy efficient system was partially funded by a Delaware-Maryland Synod ELCA Creation Care grant. We are thankful for their generous support towards our Green Ministry program at St. John. Did you know Filbert Street Garden partners with St. John? They use our kitchen for free cooking classes, which are taught by the talented and experienced Chef Ky.

Chef Ky’s soup making classes provide soup bowls for Filbert Street Garden’s pantry.

We are so thankful for their efforts to feed our community, as Jesus calls on us to do:

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

A blessed All Saints’ Day to all. We will celebrate tomorrow at 9 a.m. You are welcome to bring photos of your loved ones to display during the service.

On this All Saints Day, we remember those who have gone before us into God's eternal embrace.

Who comes to mind for you today? We invite you to share a name or a memory of the saints who have touched your life.

Let us give thanks for their witness, their faith and the lasting impact they've had on our journey.
