The thing about glass is you can see through it…but really with so much of the glass I use you can’t. Light may filter through but the substance behind remains hidden, maybe protected from view. It is at once very fragile and sharp enough to cut. It’s beautiful, shiny, iridescent, transparent or opaque, multi colored, multidimensional and multifaceted. It is absolutely perfect for the kind of art that I love to make where the material does double duty to also speak to the message.
This piece “Inside” was inspired in part by a song that resonated with a girl who struggled to reconcile external perceptions with her internal reality. Though completely unrelated to the songs origin, it is my personal reflection on the question that was raised… “when will my reflection show who I am inside?”

If you are a fan of my work and considering investing in a piece I would like to invite you to bid on this piece, “Secure” which is being auctioned to raise money for the Make-a-wish foundation.
Years ago Make-a-wish did something special for a little girl who was very special to me and I would love for my art to be able to fund an extra special experience for another family being touched by childhood cancer🩷🧡
You can place your bid at https://my.onecause.com/event/organizations/sf-0018000000bK8c8AAC/events/vevt:d52bddbe-399f-48b7-af7b-02b8b5cbcad4/auctions/silent-auction
Thank you🧡

Back on socials and feeling very blessed 🥹
Last year I had an AMAZING opportunity to create art for the District Arts Collection with and and I am finally able to talk about it! I had the privilege of memorializing 3 major moments in Bullets/Wizards history and the reveal of that art was beyond my wildest dreams. I am so grateful to have been able to share that experience with my Mom and my Daddy and have the support of . My heart is so full 🥰
On that day I lived what it means to have your gift make room for you and I’m beyond grateful.
I got to meet Wes Unseld’s wife and see how my portrait of him touched her and I got to meet and talk to him about making his portrait. There is so much more that I could say but for now I’ll just say I am thankful 🤎

I will probably never get on here and talk about 2025 but trust me it was a year, and I am so very grateful for the place that God has me in now.
Every year my church participates in a corporate fast SEEK and it’s SEEK time so I’m logging off IG and tapping into my walk with God. I’m so grateful for every kind word, post, share and like and will respond to all business inquiries at the end of the fast in February 🤎

8-11 visiting the Elizabeth Catlett exhibition in DC this summer. It was beautiful and inspiring. Seeing the way she represented Black women also using wood made my heart sing, made me want to work bigger, be better and infuse more meaning into the work I create.
A peak into my thoughts and my process 🤎
My name is Candice Tavares
I’m a wood artist
I make art that I invite everyone to collect & appreciate
Art that centers and celebrates natural beauty
Art that speaks to, celebrates and elevates Black women
If you’re in Boston next weekend I invite you to visit at the Affordable Art Fair to see the piece that I was working on during this interview
The details are so much better in person ✨
I’m so grateful for the Black woman who made this video and the Black woman who is bringing my work to Boston for a new community of collectors to see

I don’t take a lot of pictures of myself and I hardly ever post them, but I really like these completely unrealistic images of me not covered in sawdust working on art in a ballgown I have been dying to wear for YEARS 🥰
Thank you and 🤎
