We're excited to partner again with the National Association of Black Storytellers (NABS) and South Arts to support the 2026 Black Appalachian Storytellers Fellowship program.

The Black Appalachian Storytellers Fellowships honor, celebrate, and support storytellers representing Appalachian counties of KY, NC, OH, TN, VA, and WV. Fellows will show a commitment and proven ability to sustain the traditions of Black Storytelling that embody the history, heritage, and culture of African Americans in Appalachia. The fellowships will provide six $5,000 awards. One fellowship will be awarded in each of the six eligible states.

Fellows also receive funds for travel to the 44th Annual National Black Storytelling Festival and Conference, November 3-8, 2026, in Warwick, RI, and one-year membership to the National Association of Black Storytellers.

in Appalachia.
