06/14/2026

5:42pm 6/14/26 - Earlier this evening, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm WATCH for all of Maryland west of the Chesapeake Bay until 11pm tonight.

Thunderstorms are expected to blossom later this evening between 7-9pm, and move ENE across central MD. While widespread severe weather is not expected, there is the potential for a few storms to produce damaging wind gusts of 60-70mph (isolated higher gusts possible), hail as large as quarters, and an isolated tornado.

The highest probability of severe storms will be from Route 15 eastward, but the entire region is encompassed in the severe thunderstorm watch. Be sure to stay tuned to NOAA weather radio, comercial radio, and TV/media outlets for additional information and possible warnings later on.

06/12/2026

3:10 PM 06/12 - A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for southeastern portions of the forecast area until 9:00 PM EDT. This alert covers Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties, as well as Baltimore City. This alert also expands beyond our forecast area, also including southern Maryland, central and northern Virginia, and southeastern West Virginia.

This alert has been issued in advance of thunderstorms passing across the area. These thunderstorms are expected to remain fairly isolated. However, storms that do develop will be capable of packing a pretty strong punch, scattered thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts in excess of 70 MPH and isolated thunderstorms capable of producing hailstones up to 1” in diameter, similar in size to quarters.

At this time, the most likely period for storms to pass through the area looks to be between 5:00 PM EDT and 7:00 PM EDT. However, with the storms developing over the area, they would be possible for much of the later afternoon and evening hours.

06/12/2026

They are moving eastwards around 45 MPH and producing wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH and hailstones up to 3/4” in diameter, similar in size to pennies. As a result, a large SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING has been issued that extends from the Mason-Dixon Line to southern Maryland, south of our forecast area’s extent.

…Senior Forecaster Zach…

06/11/2026

6:31 PM 06/11 - Severe thunderstorms are now beginning to push into the western-most portions of the forecasted area, near Hancock in far western Washington County. These storms are currently producing torrential downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH, and hailstones up to 3/4" in diameter, similar in size to pennies. Over the next few hours, these storms are forecast to progress eastwards, with further intensification or weakening possible.
