The kettle has been filled and the Big Zinc Melt has begun!
12/26/2025
We have begun to re-load the new kettle with zinc. Strategically placing different forms of zinc (jumbos, slabs, and pellets, plus salvaged zinc from the old kettle) in preparation for The Big Melt to begin in a few days.

The new kettle has finally been placed in the pit! Today we will be enclosing the area and fine tuning the burners, in preparation for kettle loading beginning on Friday (lasting a few days), followed by The Big Zinc Melt (lasting a few more days). Stay tuned. We're almost there.

Work is just about done in the kettle pit. The new kettle has been positioned inside the plant and is ready to be installed.

It's going to take a lot of fresh zinc to fill up the new kettle.
Getting closer to reopening day!

The little hole that caused the BIG problem
12/05/2025
When the kettle failed, we had to literally scoop out as much molten zinc as possible and store it in metal drums. The reason we had to do this was to reduce the overall weight of the kettle and the zinc content in it, enabling us to ultimately be able to safely lift it out of the pit. Otherwise, it would have been too heavy.
It ain't pretty, but we did what we had to do with the resources we had available at the time.

I am pleased to report our damaged galvanizing kettle has finally been lifted out of the pit. Not a small undertaking, to say the least. Now we can turn our attention to repairing the pit itself, extracting the thousands of pounds of leaked zinc in it, with the ultimate goal of installing the new kettle, filling and melting new zinc, and then returning to "normal". Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. We're working as quickly as possible, under the circumstances, to get back up and running.
