Mount Pleasant Golf Course

Mount Pleasant has been tournament tested over the years by both professional and amateur golfers. In 1956, Arnold Palmer secured his second US victory on the professional golf tour. It was also home of the Eastern Invitational Open from 1950-1958, and returned for one year in 1962 before moving to Doral in 1963. Pleasant is a favorite for players looking for the challenge of a classic design. Palmer hooked his first tee shot into Hillen Road (the road that borders the first hole along the full length of the par-5). Palmer returned to his caddie and jammed his driver back into his golf bag saying, "That's it... I quit.” His playing partner, Doug Ford, pulled Palmer aside and said, "Arnold, you can spot this field a couple shots and still win." With a grim look on his face, Palmer pulled an iron from the bag, teed off safely, and went on to win the tournament. Of course, the rest is history.
