When families are forced to flee their homes because of violence and insecurity, even putting food on the table can become a daily struggle.

In Togo, Catholic Relief Services is helping more than 400 vulnerable families, including refugees, displaced families and local residents, access the food they need through food vouchers.

Rather than receiving pre-selected food items, families can choose the foods that best fit their needs. This approach not only helps parents provide for their children with dignity, but also supports local businesses and markets.

By helping families meet their immediate needs today, we're also strengthening communities for the future.

Families affected by conflict often face a critical gap: the time between when a crisis unfolds and when formal emergency funding becomes available.

Since May 2026, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has closed that gap in parts of Mali where families have been caught in the middle of conflict. Funded entirely through CRS's private resources, this allows our teams to respond immediately, without waiting on external funding cycles.

To date, we've supported over 5,800 people with emergency cash assistance, water and hygiene kits, shelter materials and essential household items.

For years, families in one community in Ethiopia walked nearly 2 miles for water that often made them sick. Today, a solar-powered water system is bringing clean water close to home for up to 7,000 people.

The impact goes far beyond a glass of water. Children can get to school on time, families are healthier, and farmers have more opportunities to grow food and build stable futures.

“Now that we have clean water here in our area, our problem has been solved,” says Hassen Ali Ibro, who helps manage the community’s water system.
