Working on a simple song for Libertines podcast! Today marks one week since the Oud came into my life. After picking it up in DC, I restrung it. This process took me an entire day. There are 11 strings, the tuning pegs don’t have gears, and the order in which the Oud is strung is really different than guitar. I find the whole thing totally fascinating! I was nerding out, basically. There are many tunings used on the Oud, which seem to be regional (someone please correct me if I am wrong). For now, I have settled on C-F-A-D-G-C what a tuning! I’m a total beginner in the baby pool- and it’s great 👍 For me, composing is a useful way to learn the basics of a new instrument. Also, for this type of track (just a very simple folk melody) I really don’t think I’d program something any better.

Cutting baritone on a tune for -my friend wrote this and I loved the grove that .j.shaullthompson and Ryan laid down. To me, it has a “late night” kind of feel. I love playing baritone guitar.

Episode one of “Libertines” is up on patreon and Spotify! This is the DnD podcast I have been composing music 🎶 for! It feels good to be part of something this cool. My friend Peter (Dungeon master/host) wrote a hell of a campaign and gathered an awesome ensemble of players. put some serious bass in his voice that leads us into the adventure!

Writing in 13/8…my composition is my personal brand of self flagellation 😩😩😩 I REPENT! Utilizing the fuzz factory by for maximum crunchiness.

Creating some guitar textures for the DnD podcast I am scoring. I’m using a bunch of pedals, but probably leaning on (and geeking out over) the mood mark II from - I actually bought this pedal specifically for this purpose and I’m really happy with my purchase. You can get deep with this thing, but also just go in right off the bat…I literally have no idea what I’m doing lol.

Rocked my frog and toad shirt today, as I taught a bunch of bucket drum classes- and saw new parts of Baltimore (even after living here 20+ years). Received numerous comments and compliments from both kids and adults.

In the midst of navigating my new life of teaching and doing other stuff, I’ve found myself to be distant from the music on the album I released last fall titled “The Boy Who Could Not Cry” (it’s on Bandcamp). Working on making the time to devote to my craft. I’m a songwriter. This is called “Summer in Kensington”

Great day making music with my friend at his studio today! Fred collaborated with me, laying down drums on 2 tunes for the DnD podcast I am scoring. If this track makes reminds you of making a deal with a malevolent force in order to gain supernatural powers so you can break free of the bonds of slavery- well, that’s what we were going for!
