A new article in Psychiatric Services asks a hard question: what happens when a prescription drug is sold to you online like any other product? The authors start with the death of a 27-year-old man who was using at-home ketamine ordered through a telehealth company, and whose family has now sued. Ketamine can help people whose depression hasn't responded to anything else — but at home, with no in-person visit and little follow-up, the usual safety nets thin out. Missed check-ins go unanswered. Marketing promises more than the evidence supports. Real care means a real relationship with a doctor, not just a subscription. A federal bankruptcy judge has rejected competing settlement plans proposed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the committee representing survivors of child sexual abuse. The court found serious problems with both proposals, including undisclosed assets, unlawful demands on affiliated institutions, and language too complicated for creditors to understand. With September’s confirmation hearings canceled, the nearly three-year bankruptcy enters a critical new phase—and survivors may soon be permitted to pursue individual civil lawsuits against the Archdiocese.

A five-star shout-out to our Director of Operations, Heather Butterfield, and Senior Litigation Paralegal, Chelsea Miller, for their exemplary work on behalf of our client. Clear, responsive communication is essential to the way we practice law, and we’re proud to see Heather and Chelsea recognized for providing it.
Today the California Supreme Court ruled against the thousands of HIV patients we represent against Gilead Sciences. We are deeply disappointed. The Court accepted Gilead's argument that courts shouldn't second-guess a drug company's decisions — even the decision to shelve a safer drug (TAF) for years to protect profits on a more toxic one (TDF).
We fought this case for our clients — people who battle HIV every day and deserved better. We take on the biggest, best-funded companies because it's right. This loss stings, but we know we stood on the right side of justice.

Congratulations to our colleague James Gotz and the extraordinary legal team honored with Public Justice’s 2026 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award for its work in Kashef v. BNP Paribas. After nearly a decade of litigation, the team secured a historic verdict for Sudanese refugees who survived genocide and other atrocities. The case marks the first time a U.S. jury has held a major international bank civilly liable for materially supporting genocide and mass human rights abuses committed in Sudan.
