Our mission at Studymark, first and foremost, is to create value to patients and practitioners, by complementing existing medical and healthcare practices with a clinical research arm. We aim to lower the cost of drug development by lowering the experience threshold of prospective practitioners, demystifying the qualifications necessary to conduct controlled, randomized trials, and generating the impetus for moving away from the industry trend of consolidating experts into sophisticated, expensive centers. Lowering the experience hurdle also serves to indirectly address another existing industry challenge -- namely, the lack of racial and genetic diversity in research participants. We aim to expand the reach and potential benefits of clinical trials to the widest population, increasing diversity, improving outcomes, while generating much needed additional value to clinics that are losing the battle with larger hospital systems.

Borrowing from financial services, perhaps the clinical trials industry may adopt the standard practice of penalizing delinquent payments. Just as a borrower may face charges for late payments to a lender, so to study sponsors should be held accountable for timely payments to sites. Our experience with payments from Sponsors and CROs has generally been quite good, with very few instances where payments are 180+ days delinquent. Pharma companies that contract domestic third-party vendors specifically for handling site payments tend usually to produce more timely payments and reports, compared to companies that have outsourced this job offshore.
