Richard Roth gives a gallery talk this Saturday, June 20 at 1 pm in the gallery. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about Richard's fascinating constructions. The gallery will be open from 1 to 4 pm.

The wait is nearly over! In under two weeks, Baltimore will once again be host to a world-class fleet of tall ships & Navy vessels. We are so thrilled to be an organizing partner for Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore -- An event that will draw thousands to Baltimore's iconic Inner Harbor to see the ships & airshow featuring three amazing flight demonstration teams including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, British RED ARROWS, & French PATROUILLE de FRANCE -- it's going to an incredible event you don't want to miss.

We will continue to post updates ahead of & during the event. Be sure to follow the official Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore page & check out their website, https://www.sail250md.org/, for official event information & updates.

Note on ship arrivals, there is no formal Parade of Sail planned for Sail250® Maryland & Airshow Baltimore. Ships will arrive over several days, with many transiting the Bay overnight. If you'd like to follow their progress, we recommend using the MarineTraffic or Aqua Map apps to track participating vessels in real time.

About the Artist

Richard Roth is a Baltimore artist whose work is deeply shaped by the city he adopted in 1961. Originally visiting college friends, he was captivated by Baltimore’s industrial landscape and historic seaport, ultimately choosing to stay and build both his life and career there as an educator and artist.

Early experiences working in his father’s hardware store in Indiana, followed by years in the mobile home industry, gave Roth a lasting understanding of materials, craftsmanship, and construction. That hands-on foundation continues to influence his artistic practice today. His paintings and sculptural objects are created through construction-based methods and layered with the textures, surfaces, and finishes of the working world. Baltimore’s history, grit, and resilience remain central sources of inspiration throughout his work.

Roth graduated from Ball State University and later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from MICA. He retired from Catonsville Community College, where he served as Chair of the Sculpture Department.
