BLS families filled the stands at Camden Yards for Night Out at the O's on a beautiful Friday night. Thanks to our BLS community, BLS also had its own table on the main concourse to share our story with Baltimore families!

The Orioles didn't win, but our BLS family sure did. 🙌

𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝘁, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. 🥔🌱

BLS Lower School students spent the day at First Fruits Farm, Inc. in Freeland, MD, where every single item grown is donated to food pantries and organizations that feed neighbors in need across our region.

Together with the other schools volunteering that day, our students helped harvest 20,000 pounds of potatoes! That's a lot of small hands doing big work.

Along the way, they toured the farm, met the chickens, and learned about regenerative farming practices, seeing firsthand where food comes from and what it takes to get it to the table.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲–𝟮𝟳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲, 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: students discovering that they're part of a larger Maryland community and that their effort can make a real difference for someone they may never meet. 🌉

𝟯… 𝟮… 𝟭… 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗣! 🚀

Baltimore Lab School's Middle School engineers took on the 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗽 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 in Innovators Workshop, transforming the parking lot into Cape Canaveral for the day, chalk-drawn Cocoa Beach viewing area and all.

Students researched rocket design (fins, nose cones, and more), then designed, built, and tested rockets engineered for specific missions, from maximum altitude to longest flight time. Test launches inspired redesigns. Sideways shots, straight-up flights, and one rocket that vanished into the clouds: each attempt was real data, and iteration was the whole point.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀-𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝗱.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁, 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸! 🎉

The 2026–27 school year kicked off this week at Baltimore Lab School — and what a start. Orientation welcomed new and returning families for Lower, Middle, and High School sessions, where the message was simple: take a deep breath; you're in the right place. Education here is a true partnership, and we can't wait to build it together this year.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 — students spotting each other across the room, hugs and handshakes, and the happy noise of friendships picking up right where they left off.

By midweek, school was in full swing: Middle Schoolers connecting in get-to-know-you meetings, classes underway, art projects starting, movement breaks keeping bodies and brains ready to learn.

A new year. New faces and familiar ones. Endless possibilities ahead.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯 — 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. 💙💚💜

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.

This week our faculty came back for orientation. Head of School, Steve Buettner, opened with what we believe: every child has unique strengths, and every child can learn. Then our Arts team revealed this year's school-wide theme — 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 — and everyone got to work building their own visual bridges, blending two unrelated images into one drawing.

That's the work here. We meet students where they are and build the bridge from there — to reading, to learning, to confidence, to each other. Then we watch them build on their own.

𝗔𝘁 𝗕𝗟𝗦, 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀. 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 "𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁" 𝘁𝗼 "𝗜 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱."

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲! 🎉

We closed out our four-week Summer Program the best way we know how — by opening our doors and letting families see the learning for themselves.

Parents joined us for an Open House where they visited academic classrooms to hear what their children read, wrote, and worked through this summer. They watched music demonstrations from our youngest learners and our high schoolers alike, explored the creative art projects students designed and brought to life, and sat side by side with their children as they proudly walked them through their work.

At Baltimore Lab School, summer isn't about worksheets — it's about locking in learning. Our hands-on, arts-integrated approach is built on proven methods that help students with learning differences hold onto skills, build new ones, and head into the school year confident instead of behind. When students make, perform, and create, learning sticks.

The best part? Watching students light up as they showed their families what they accomplished — and watching parents see their children as the capable, creative learners they are.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀. Next up: a brand new school year — we'll see a lot of you very soon! 💙

Four weeks of reading, mathing, making, cooking, splashing, exploring — and a whole lot of laughing. Thank you to every student, teacher, and staff member who made it such a wild time. See a lot of you in a few weeks! 💙💚

𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲. 🍦

Our Summer Program students picked their own ice cream flavors, researched the recipes, and worked through the steps together — measuring, mixing, pouring, waiting (the hardest part), and finally scooping. Chocolate, raspberry, cookies & cream, and one very enthusiastic mint.🍦💚

It looked like a kitchen. It worked like an executive function lab. Choosing a flavor is goal-setting. Following a recipe is sequencing. Measuring is applied math. Sharing cooking utensils is collaboration in real time.

𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁? They served what they made and shared scoops with other classrooms.
That's hands-on learning at Baltimore Lab — students with learning differences doing real work and having a great time doing it.
