Inventor Julian Brown says he intentionally does not have his plastic-to-fuel technology patented because he believes the patent industry is corrupt.

Brown, who created Plastoline, a device that converts plastic waste into fuel, said he learned this after speaking with the inventor of the wireless key fob for cars. The inventor told Brown that GM stole his technology despite having 70 patents.

Brown said the inventor explained that patents mean nothing to big players because fighting patent infringement in court requires money and time that most inventors don't have.

Instead, Brown relies on trade secrets and public domain protection. By publishing his machines online for over a year, nobody can patent them. Brown said this prevents companies from copying and shelving his technology.
