Midlife Reinvention Reframe:

You’re planning a major luxury purchase because you believe it will bring you happiness.

You’re doing this because it will help make up for the fact that you don’t like your career, and hell, you deserve it for putting up with everything you deal with daily.

Take a moment to understand this truth:

Your purchase is another bar in a prison cell of something that makes up 1/3 of your day and that you dislike.

You’re constructing a lifestyle prison.

➡️ Don’t buy your way deeper into a life you’re trying to escape.

Reinvention begins when you stop using rewards to numb the pain and escape and start facing what needs to change.

I’m Craig Stanland, a keynote speaker who transforms the hard-won lessons from my journey through federal prison into powerful, actionable insights. I help audiences unlock their authentic potential, redefine success on their terms, and thrive—in both work and life.

Don't Shelf Your Dreams: The New Way to Measure Success 03/16/2025

What if, instead of living from the outside -> in, we learned to live from the inside -> out?

What if our sense of happiness, and its deeper cousin joy, came from within and wasn’t dependent on externals?

What if we choose to feel how we want to feel now, not if we achieve a particular milestone?

What if we redefined success as a connection, creation, and contribution model, not a chase?

I explore all this and more in my latest article for The Good Men Project

I'd love to know what you think.

I voted today.

It’s the first time I’ve voted since the FBI arrested me.

Pre-prison, I intellectually understood how important the right to vote is.

Now, having voted again for the 1st time in 12 years, I emotionally understand how important it is.

I feel a deep and beautiful sense of gratitude to have regained the right after my choices lost that right.

I’ve come to realize 2 things:

Losing something allows me to understand that thing more fully than having it ever will.

Intellectual understanding doesn’t hold a candle to emotional understanding.

My opening keynote is a few hours away.

One of my rituals is to check out the stage before taking the stage.

I love connecting with the space - it helps me connect even more with the audience.

And it's surreal to see 225 copies of my book spread over 45 tables.

You've reached the point in your career and life where you "have it all."

The job title, the home, the car, and the lifestyle you've always imagined for yourself.

You reached the top.

It feels good. But something's missing.

So you work a little harder and acquire even more.

And that feels good, too, but it's still not quite right.

What the hell?

"I was promised certain things when I obtained certain things."

Here you are at the top of your professional mountain only to find yourself with a success-sized filling your chest.

It feels like a betrayal.

It feels like a betrayal because following "shoulds" and expectations of others and society is a recipe for an unfulfilling life.

It's time to hit the reset button & reinvent your life.

One snag, though, one or all of the thoughts below enter your mind:

✔️ It's hard.
✔️ I'm too old.
✔️ I'm an impostor.
✔️ I don't have the skills.
✔️ It's not available to me.
✔️ It requires a lot of money.
✔️ I don't have the resources.
✔️ I wouldn't even know where to begin, so why bother?
I have to burn it all to the ground before I can start over.
I have to leave everything I've worked so hard for behind.

These are 10 myths of reinvention; each one is nothing more than a limiting belief.

However, each is powerful enough to keep you stuck where you are in your status quo.

Living what you call a comfortable life, but an unfulfilling life.

How do you navigate these myths so you can create the extraordinary & fulfilling life you desire?

✅ Kick the tires on your beliefs - don't buy them at face value.

Here's the thing:

If you don't even try - you're guaranteed to stay stuck.

Kick the tires - and you've already broken free.
