The Barrelhouse Conference: Conversations and Connections, Practical Advice on Writing — Barrelhouse Conversations and Connections is a one-day conference organized by Barrelhouse in person at American University in Washington, DC on April 18, 2026.

Writers! Join us at the Barrelhouse conference in DC on April 18, for a great day talking craft and publishing in a friendly, supportive environment! We have sessions on revision and structure, hermit crab essays, a Dolly Parton poetry workshop (!!!), writers block, book reviews, carving out a writing life, and more more more. We are still the cheapest conference around, and More than half that registration fee goes directly to the participating litmags and presses.
