Only Murders by R-Kwon 08/08/2025

https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/rkwon/only-murders
“Only Murders” by R-Kwon is a tribute and testimony to OMITB Only Murders in the Building - the greatest show ever made with the most outstanding cast ever assembled! My hope is that this song does it justice!

Lester the Doorman allowed me to take temporary residence in the Arconia lobby as I gathered intel for this project. As the bodies dropped, I was busy writing lyrics, capturing investigator bios, chasing down key plot lines and clues, archiving historical movie references (“The Jerk”, “The Three Amigos”, etc.), expanding/executing my collection of puns, drawing musical inspiration, and documenting the ensemble list of suspects. SO - before the investigation is flipped back on me, know that my alibi is airtight!

If you have not completed all four seasons of the series, I am issuing a SPOILER ALERT!!! Please do your part to ensure this song (now streaming everywhere) goes viral to get the word out on this amazing show ahead of Season 5, which is scheduled to premiere on September 9th!

Two years ago on this date (1/12/22), the “Dweeb Nation” album by R-Kwon inspired entirely by recording artist Octavio the Dweeb was officially released for streaming on all platforms.

The album spawned Team Dweeb & Dweeb Nation to create a voice for the underdog dweebs around the world!

Octavio’s music is severely underrated & deserves everyone’s support as he is a “Legend in the Making” (R-Kwon’s favorite lyrics that he wrote for the album along with “Water Slaps” and “El Deeeb”)!

Fun Album Facts:
Several songs were inspired by IG Live sessions during which Octavio performed his brilliant songs and interacted with fans & won them over with his contagious personality

“Ranch Microphone” was inspired by IG sessions where Octavio would sing into a bottle of ranch dressing or Chick-Fil-A sauce

“Water Slaps” was inspired by Octavio’s utterance of that phrase during an IG Live discussion of favorite beverages (Gatorade an honorable mention)

The clips of Octavio’s voice throughout the album were recorded from those same IG Live sessions that inspired the songs

Interactions between R-Kwon & Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed that Rivers is a big fan of Octavio…Rivers created the hashtag (Octavio is also a huge Weezer fan and freaked out when he heard this)

Tracks from “Dweeb Nation” are featured on Weezify, a music platform created by Rivers to archive & share unreleased Weezer demos (R-Kwon tracks are included in the “Best of By the People” playlist)!

While “El Dweeb” raps in Spanish-English about Octavio’s Tecate Pal Norte performance, “East Coast” attempted to lure him across the country to perform, which worked as he opened up Gov Ball in Queens NYC where R-Kwon had the honor of watching him perform and meeting his absolutely wonderful family!

“Someday I’ll Be Happy” is the only cover song that R-Kwon has ever recorded and he pays royalties annually which is satisfying as a tribute to his favorite artist (there is an unreleased version with a rap interlude also in existence)

My favorite artist Octavio the Dweeb only dropped to the second spot in my this year because I am guilty of listening to MY OWN music more (R-Kwon )! Shame on me! Much love to Octavio, almost monday and other favorite Octavio collaborators and friends for all the inspiration!

Inspiration from the old school and the new school - the latest R-Kwon album “Mediocre at Best” was largely influenced by West Coast hip-hop, particularly rap legends Snoop Dogg (pictured) Warren G (pictured) Dr. Dre Ice Cube in addition to indie pop & alt rock future legends Octavio the Dweeb (still need to meet my favorite artist) almost monday (pictured) Ryan Woods (pictured) Gabe James Girlish (pictured) Doublecamp as referenced in tracks like “Future Legends” & “Not Just Music”. I have had the honor and privilege of meeting many of these inspirations face-to-face, and would encourage everyone to meet your heroes - young and old!

The fifteenth track, “Not Just Music”, off the newly-released R-Kwon album “Mediocre at Best” waxes poetic on the profound power of music as an ally, an outlet, a friend, a connection, an expression, and all its many wonderful roles!

MC Rap references include “future legends” such as Octavio the Dweeb almost monday Girlish Ryan Woods Gabe James as well as stars & legends such as .raycharles

Lyric Spotlight:
“It's not just music; It's a form of expression; A release of aggression; The communication of a timeless lesson; It's not just music; It's a therapy session; It's form of confession; The detergent to a stain of deep depression; It's not just music; It's a path intersection; It's a deeper connection; It's discovering the beauty in an imperfection”

The sixth track off the recently-released R-Kwon album “Mediocre at Best” tells the tale of Nietzsche the philosopher, who was noted for his claim that “God is Dead” and decided to extend this philosophy to “Music is Dead”. R-Kwon took exception to the statement and set out to prove Nietzsche wrong by coming up with the “Ultimate Playlist” featuring his favorite up-and-coming music artists including Octavio the Dweeb almost monday Ryan Woods Gabe James Girlish & Doublecamp ! The argument turned into a bet, and R-Kwon met up with Nietzsche at the best bierhaus in Liepzig to present the playlist and prove Nietzsche’s theory wrong (with existentialism hanging in the balance)!

Lyric Spotlight (Octavio verse):
“Octavio the Dweeb Is a Legend in the Making; I’m Team Dweeb all the way everyday and founder of Dweeb Nation; El Dweeb has talent that’s off the charts - the next big music sensation; He’ll cast his doubts to Oblivion - I’d wager my reputation!”

MC Rap references in this one include the future legends themselves .fabry

The fifth track off the newly-released R-Kwon album “Mediocre at Best” is a tribute to my favorite artist Octavio the Dweeb (who also inspired my ENTIRE second album “Dweeb Nation” & this Team Dweeb tribute page 🤪)! This song was written using 36 released & unreleased song titles from Octavio’s music (try to catch ‘em all) - in fact, stop reading this and check out El Dweeb right now at:

https://hoo.be/octaviothedweeb

MC Rap references in this one include the majority of Octavio’s songs (there’s a Weezer reference in there too, which by the way, Rivers Cuomo is a huge fan of Octavio as well )!

Lyric Spotlight:
“I'll take that slow drag…breathe in the fumes from your hashtag -
secondhand - need to experience you first hand; That's the plan, understand. I'll fight every day for you like I'm Balboa - I'm gonna show ya; Get to know me like I already know ya - what I'm capable of through this blessing and curse called love” ❤️
