I FOUND MY GRANT HOME YALL!
Grant Professionals Association put on an AMAZING Summit and I am so glad I went. There were so many obstacles in my path but GPA folks made sure I got THERE and BACK safely.
Special shoutout to Melody Hernandez for being a great roomie, mentor, and friend. She is the reason I paid my membership and made it to GPA Summit in the first place.
I have been impacted by the government shutdown and multiple GPA members stepped up to make sure I could still attend. Then I was greeted with a strong and definitive stance on DEI which was reassuring and refreshing to hear, especially in a time when it is critical to fight back.
Congratulations to our new President Doris Shivers, CGS, CGW, GPC who was a pillar of leadership from the moment I walked in the door until the moment I left.
I look forward to staying connected with all the amazing folks I met.
Happy writing yall!

He yelled at me in front of his wife then called me unprofessional. Let’s turn this into a lesson learned.
Before we get to that … Register so you dont end up like him 🥴: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/build-your-grant-pipeline-strategy-readiness-working-session-registration-1493594183409
We had agreed on a decision date. I sent the invoice Friday, followed up Monday and again on Wednesday, and heard nothing back. When I shared a simple update in the group chat about moving forward with services and waiting to hear back, he called me unscheduled, raised his voice, said he was very triggered, and told me I was unprofessional. His wife could not get a word in, and when I tried to speak he got louder, cut me off, and proceeded to insult me and my business.
The truth is it was not about me. He was not ready to follow through on what he had committed to and was not prepared to make payment. Instead of scheduling a conversation when he was ready, he reacted emotionally.
Here is the lesson. Being grant ready means having the funds available to hire a grant writer in the same way you would hire a social media manager. You do not wait until the posts start bringing in sales to pay your marketing team. You pay them for the work they deliver. The same applies to grant writers. Our job is to deliver well researched, well written grants that position you for funding. Your job is to be financially and emotionally ready to engage and to maintain the relationships we help you build.
That is why I created the Build Your Grant Pipeline workshop on August 28. I will walk you through what you need before hiring a grant writer so you can avoid unnecessary stress and actually secure the funding your organization deserves.

I don’t think they’re ready for the take down.
Of oppressive grant systems
Of the silence that’s kept our orgs underfunded
Of the fear that keeps us playing small
This is your battle training.
🛠️ We’re building your grant pipeline
📄 Crafting your grant readiness packet
📚 Showing you how to fundraise in this hostile climate
⚔️ And naming exactly what’s happening to grant dollars under this administration
This is strategy
This is protection
This is survival
Join me Wednesday August 27 from 10am–1:30pm CST
Limited seats. Link in bio.
