Transitions and routines are an important part of every child's day. Whether it's getting ready for school, cleaning up after playtime, or preparing for bedtime, predictable routines help children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
In this 1-hour virtual session, families will learn why transitions can sometimes be challenging for young children and discover practical strategies to make these moments smoother and less stressful. Participants will explore ways to create consistent daily routines at home, support their child's growing independence, and build skills that promote positive behavior and emotional well-being at home and in school.

🌱 Math Seed Number 7: Toy Cars
Welcome to our final Math Seeds post of the month! Baltimore City Early Learning hopes you have enjoyed finding math in the most unexpected places.
We are finishing the series with a household classic: Toy Cars. Whether they are racing across the kitchen floor or lined up in a traffic jam, toy cars are perfect for exploring speed, distance, and organization.

Ways to Explore Toy Car Math:
- Sorting by Attribute: Ask your child to group their cars. They might group them by color, by type (trucks vs. cars), or even by material (metal vs. plastic).
- Speed and Distance: Create a simple ramp using a piece of cardboard or a book. Race two cars and see which one goes further. Use your "math talk" to say, "The blue car went a long distance, but the red car went even further!"
- Data and Graphing: Line up cars of the same color in rows to create a "living bar graph." Ask, "Do we have more yellow cars or more black cars?"
- Ordering by Size: Find the smallest car and the largest car. Try to line up five cars in order from smallest to biggest.
- Counting Spaces: If you have tiles on your floor or a rug with a pattern, count how many "squares" a car travels when you give it a push.
- Spatial Vocabulary: Practice using words like "behind," "in front of," "next to," and "between" as you park the cars in a pretend garage.

Playing with toy cars helps children develop spatial awareness and an understanding of cause and effect. Thank you for joining us for Math Seeds this May! We hope these simple ideas help you continue to find the math in your everyday rhythms.
