The staff and children in our Jefferson Terrace classroom recently hatched ducklings!

Throughout the incubation process, the children were actively involved every step of the way. They helped fill the incubator’s water reservoirs to maintain proper humidity levels, and each child had their own duck calendar to count down the days until hatching. The children also participated in candling the eggs, allowing them to observe how the ducklings were growing and developing inside their shells.

The ducklings hatched on May 31, and the classroom was thrilled to welcome seven healthy ducklings! The children have continued to help care for them by making sure they have food and water, and they are having fun choosing names for each duck.

To celebrate the end of this special experience, each child received a small stuffed duck to adopt and take home, along with a photo of themselves holding one of the ducklings as a keepsake. Later this week, the ducklings will travel to their new home on a local farm.

Big news! The Immigrant Services Department partnered with Skidmore College to launch English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Conversation Partners.

For ten weeks, Skidmore students helped our ESOL learners practice English and volunteered to gather key info about North Country immigrants. Both groups benefited: our ESOL students gained valuable practice, while Skidmore students deepened their understanding of immigration in Saratoga and connected classroom learning to real-world work at LifeWorks.

Special thanks to Dr. Amon Emeka, Associate Professor and incoming Sociology Chair, for supporting this project. Want to be a conversation partner or volunteer? Email [email protected].

¡Grandes noticias!
