Mom & mental health professional asking for your vote for Ballston Spa School Board. Vote May 16th!
I'm asking for your vote in the May 16 school board election, so I can continue to serve the students and families in the Ballston Spa Central School District. I am a long time resident of Ballston Spa, a grateful mom of two sons who went to Ballston Spa schools from kindergarten through high school and a psychologist who has worked in multiple educational settings, both K-12 and higher education.

Happy National Teacher Appreciation day! My mom was a public school teacher for 25 years and while fashions have changed (pretty sure she made this outfit herself), what hasn't changed is the dedication, professionalism, expertise and heart that teachers bring to their students. They make a difference every day. Huge thanks to the amazing teachers in Ballston Spa and everywhere.

Great article about teens' responses to hearing about the recent CDC report about their mental health. So important to listen to students' experiences and ideas.
Love this quote at the end where teens are asked what helps:
"I personally think having a strong relationship with the teachers and students at your school is important because it makes school so much easier and it adds to the fun. I could be having a horrible day and I’ll come to school and they make everything better with nothing but laughs."

2 of my favorite things, actually 3-peeps, libraries and Arthur. Happy Saturday morning everyone.
ArthurPBS on TikTok Having fun isn’t hard when you’re making a Peeps diorama! Unless you’re making Peeps dance, then it can be hard tbh

Congrats to all our B'Spa Odyssey of the Mind teams who competed at the NY state finals in Syracuse this past weekend. Huge shout out to the Malta Avenue team going to worlds!
Thanks to George Danison, BSHS class of 2019, who gave me permission to post his awesome Tshirt design from back in the day.
OM emphasizes creativity and teamwork-"If one member of the team is stuck, the whole team is stuck".
As a B'Spa board member, I am a respectful and collaborative team player. I know we are better, stronger and more creative together.

These recent national survey results about high school youth help motivate my run for Ballston Spa School Board. We know that many of our students are struggling with their mental health. High school students are reporting higher rates of anxiety, suicidality and sexual violence. Female students and LGBTQ youth reported the highest levels of victimization and distress. Black students are most likely to attempt su***de.
Guess what helps? Supportive and connected school environments mean students can learn better and build life-long skills and resiliency.
Creating supportive communities for our students requires respecting teachers, keeping lines of communications open between families and the district and making sure every student has multiple opportunities to engage.
