In December 15, 2025, Azusa City Council approved the selection of Mayor for a one-year term, through January 2027 and Mayor Pro Tem.

Action was needed because, on December 1, 2025, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2025-C55, concerning the selection criteria and term of the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem, which would be rotational among the five councilmembers and based on seniority. The reorganization shall take place annually in the month of December with the terms of the newly appointed Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem beginning in January for a one-year period. This action will approve the selection of a Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem for the period of January, 2026 - January, 2027.

Mayor Pro-Tem Edward J. Alvarez will become the next Mayor starting on January, 2026, and Council Member Jesse Avila Jr. will become the next Mayor Pro-Tem. Mayor Robert Gonzales will be the last elected Mayor of Azusa, making history.

Azusa’s Night Market was a successful night. Multiple vendors were present and offering great products and services. People were having fun, and people enjoyed the market. Even though it’s the first market we had in years, not a lot of vendors were there, but it’s the first to come, and more will come.

During the last decade, Azusa southern parts didn’t have a supermarket in a long time. The last supermarket was Buy Low from 2008* to 2015. The one before that was Price Rite of 2005. Azusa only had ONE Hispanic market ; the King Ranch Market from Downtown Azusa, but closed in 2009. Azusa didn’t have a Hispanic supermarket for its community. Until now. It been a rough couple of years in the southern part of Azusa, now we have more opportunities for our community, and more economic freedom.

Around 12PM, in this Sunday Afternoon, multiple ICE agents came into a neighborhood in Azusa, and picked up a father right in front of his house. The ICE agents arrived and blocked the streets, multiple of them were in vans. This situation is still being investigated by our team, we will keep our community updated on the latest.

During the recent City Council meeting, A ordinance was passed by 5-0, to amend the TOD Specific Plan to expand the standard operating hours in the downtown and the downtown extension districts. Now its proposed as 11pm to 6am.

A local entrepreneur is starting up a Your Pie Pizza shop here in downtown Azusa! This was planned for a while, set to open mid-August. Your Pie Pizza is an southeastern style of franchise, and this will be the 2nd in the whole state of California.

The City of Azusa, has passed a ordinance to a amend the Azusa Municipal Code Section 46-321 and 50-2 to prohibit the use of E-Bikes and Motorized Scooters in parks, sidewalks, and City Recreational and government facilities. This ordinance was approved by 4-1 on June 16, 2025. Now, July 21, 2025, they will be second reading of the ordinance, and Adopt Ordinance No. 2025-04. The ordinance will become effective in 30 days.

City Council Meeting is scheduled for July 21, 2025 at 7:30 PM.
It’s expected to be held on Monday.
