Hey friends, this is Laura, the owner of Bananarchy!
I am writing to tell you about a friend of Bananarchy who has been in immigration detention for over 8 months after his asylum case was dismissed during a scheduled administrative hearing. His name is Ricardo and he is a native of Angola, a human rights activist and survivor of torture. He entered the US in 2023 and lived in Austin while waiting on his case, working legally as a heavy equipment operator. I’ve gotten to know Ricardo personally and want to support him.
We are hopeful Ricardo gets released soon, so some of his friends and I made a GoFundMe since he will be starting over from nothing. Funds will also help to support his wife and children during an uncertain time.
