Isn’t it curious how grief is something we all will experience (and are currently experiencing) yet it’s one of the main topics people struggle to support others in?
I get it! We are conditioned to help by “fixing” things and that’s not possible with grief. I’ve been deep in my own grief experience and have learned that it’s hard for others to know how to support unless they’ve gone through their own loss.
I wanted to share some thoughts on what might be helpful if someone you know is grieving. Of course this post cannot capture every nuance and every possible action of support. So, I’d love to hear if there’s something we didn’t include that was helpful for you on your own grief journey or for someone you know!
Also I’ll be sending out our email later today with a free guided meditation on grief so if you’d like to get access you can sign up at the link in our bio!

Grief is universal. We all will experience grief at some point. We all are currently experiencing a collective grief as this pandemic continues to uproot our lives and take the lives of 4.55 million people worldwide.
The colonization of living and dying has disembodied us from our full experience of grief; our full experience of love. How can we grieve when there is no law in the U.S. that requires employers to offer bereavement leave? And if you are lucky to work for a company that offers it, it’s typically 3 days.
How can we grieve when we live in a culture of “fix it” mentality and because there is no “fixing” grief we learn to remain silent? We send our condolences. We send the flowers. But do we really hold space for each other to feel grief? Grief doesn’t get healed and go away. Grief actually doesn’t need healing- it’s the way we talk about (or don’t talk about) grief that needs healing.
I’ll be sharing a bit more in our monthly email about my own grief journey and how embodied awareness and somatic practices were transformative to my relationship with grief and resilience. I’ll also be sharing a guided meditation on grief. If you’re not on our email list, you can get access through the link in our bio!

Coming in with some facts again for y’all. While this study was done in 2016, the lack of gender affirming care in eating disorder spaces remains. This also means trans* and gender diverse providers are harmed as well.
I’m so grateful to have been asked to share more about this for the TEDD WIND Inclusivity Conference. Tickets are still for sale and you have access to the recording after so please sign up if you’re interested! Check out the INCREDIBLE line up of speakers and topics !
And, I’m beyond excited to welcome Sand Chang to the Ample + RootED Community. They’ll be facilitating our Community Circle on Friday and I’m grateful they’ll be sharing their wisdom. If you’d like to join us, you can learn more at the link in our bio!

Anorexia nervosa occurs in ALL body sizes. Hard stop.
Want to take a quiz on your own implicit bias? Who comes to mind when you think of someone with anorexia? Someone with bulimia? Someone with ARFID? Someone with binge eating disorder? There are harmful and incorrect stereotypes out there about who struggles with disordered eating.
What is even worse is that most of those with anorexia are encouraged to continue disordered eating behaviors based on anti-fat bias.
If you’re a provider desiring connection and inclusive training in the eating disorder and body liberation field, consider joining our Community! Today we dropped an incredible webinar going in depth into the impacts of stigma and anorexia and clinical considerations for providers.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve come to realize that the “traditional” training for eating disorders and body shame for mental health professionals just isn’t cutting it.
You’re frustrated with all the fatphobic messaging, the outdated models, and the overall direction of the industry that completely ignores the experience of BIPOC, LGBQIA+, trans and non-binary, fat, and/or disabled people (which may also describe your own life experience; I’m right there with you!).
I was fed up with the lack of support and overall oppressive standards of care in our field, so I set out to create our own community based on equity, body liberation, and inclusivity for all.
And I’d like to invite you to join us!
The Ample + RootED Community is a place for the integration of continuing education for your professional fat-positive practice and also a space for your personal growth.
A loving and warm community to help facilitate an industry-wide shift from a diet culture based framework to a liberated framework.

An incredible group of professionals who are tired of fatphobic and harmful messaging and want to change the way we treat eating disorders and body image.
Does that sound like you?
Because we’re on the exact same page!
