Authentic, traditional, home-style, southern comfort food brought to you in Austin and surrounding areas. Dela Sanders was born in South Austin in 1933.
De La SoulFood aims to bring authentic, traditional, home-style, southern comfort food to your table. Owner and Chef, Leonard Williams, has been cooking for almost twenty years and has cultivated a serious passion for creating home-style cuisine. This passion flourished under the guidance of his grandmother, Dela Sanders, and all of De La SoulFood’s dishes are inspired by family recipes that he ha
s grown up with. She grew up loving to cook and she learned the Sanders' family recipes at an early age. Her first restaurant job was at The Toddler House in Austin as a server where she spent time in the kitchen, refining her cooking skills even more. She moved to San Francisco in 1970, where she began working as a server and line cook at Burns Restaurant in 1973. It was here she first featured some of her own signature dishes. Leonard has experience working in various restaurant settings. He started his career at chain restaurants and worked his way up to renowned fine dining establishments. Having this range of work experience and family cooking history, he now wants to share his love and passion for food and family with you through his creations. Leonard is bringing a sometimes forgotten tradition of Food and Family back to the table.
