Electrician nerd stuff…

According to my research, in the movie Christmas Vacation, Clark “Sparky” Griswold’s 250 strands of 100 count c9 lightbulbs “for a grand total of 25000 bulbs” would run at an estimated 1,458.3 Amps, Or 175,000 watts of power. To put that into perspective, an average 110v household outlet is normally rated at 15/20 amps...and the average household power from the electrical service company is 100/200 amps....

And that’s not including his normal household lights, the Christmas tree lights inside, or the floodlights on the reindeer and santa...

This means, at a rate of 12 cents-per-kilowatt hour, (average electric billing rate) his lights are costing him $21 per hour to have on.... or $210 per day, assuming he leaves them on for 10 hours a day. And if he had them lit 10 hours a day for a whole month, his electric bill would Be $6300, just for the strings of white lights.

Of course, those monetary figures are only accurate if we assume Clark had an upgraded power supply from the electrical supplier. Assuming he had an average 200 amp service line, he would be exceeding the maximum available amperage by 1,258.3 amps....6.2 times more than the average household could supply.
