Matrix Therapy
Focusing on the benefits of John F Barnes myofascial release to heal holistically and permanently. This provides stability to the fascial system.
MFR or myofascial release is a specialized manual therapy technique that treats the fascial system in order to repair the body. Our bodies are built with this connective tissue and no two cells touch each other without first going through the fascial web. Fascia is made up of collagen, elastin, and the ground substance. The collagen is made up of three polypeptide bonds that wrap around each other

How can you develop interoceptive awareness? Interstitial fibers are abundant in the shearing and sliding zones of fascia. This is why massage techniques such as myofascial release are so effective and help you feel present in your body. Deep sustained pressure, vibration, melting, gliding, and oscillations all increase interoceptive awareness.

What nerves stimulate interoceptive awareness? The interstitial receptors. Though the vagus nerve was originally thought to be the main nerve in interoception, we now know free nerve endings throughout the body also contribute significantly. These nerves are the most abundant receptor type in the body and exist primarily in the fascia. The respond to both rapid and sustained pressure changes. Originally thought to be pain receptors, they are now understood to be primarily mechanoreceptors. Activation of these fibers have automatic functions leading to changes in heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory rate. Slow sustained pressure causes changes in gamma motor system. A tissue release may be the felt sense of motor units in the muscle inhibiting, allowing a myofascial release therapist to feel the tissue release and move with it, causing other motor units to release. They also influence fluid levels through the autonomic nervous system, sending fluid from the vessels, into the fascia.

Heartbeat awareness varies across individuals. Heartbeat awareness correlates with reading one’s own and others emotions. It correlates with ability to tolerate painful stimuli.

What are some signs of poor Interoception awareness? -difficulty regulating emotions -difficulty with sleep cycles -urinary inconvenience -over eating or not knowing when you are hungry -difficulty attending to tasks -low energy -poor coordination or difficulty following verbal cues to perform a physical activity

What is Interoception? It is the ability to feel yourself. It is how you attend to, appraise, and respond to sensations from the body. It is the information we use to maintain homeostasis.
