I'm Via Boley, a fine artist based in Austin TX. Feel free to reach out to me via email or DM

With a passion for oil painting, I've dedicated myself to creating art that focuses on the complexities and power dynamics present in the act of viewing artwork.

It can be difficult to revisit a painting that was created in the past. There are so many things that have changed since then — new techniques, a different mind, new fears & taste buds. Even so, this felt like the perfect piece to do that with. Looking at both (on the last slide) I can see how my confidence has grown. The subject in the new piece is unwavering. Although she gazes away from the viewer it is an act of defiance. She is choosing to do so — not out of shame but from something else.

If you missed it: This was the result of my live painting event at Unchained Art Gallery. The piece will be up at the Gallery for a limited time, so definitely go check it out.

“Impermanent:”
40 x 30 inches
acrylic mixed media on reflective material

This piece is up for viewing at .art.gallery in downtown Austin! Come check it out at my next event on the 30th — more details to come

This piece features painted depictions of curved chrome surfaces on reflective vinyl. The sweeping, organic shapes suggest movement and transformation, in contrast to the rigid verticality of previous works. These mirrored forms bend and warp, resulting in a dynamic, shifting presence that invites quiet confrontation. As the viewer searches the surface, they find themselves embedded within it — along the sides and cracked into the surface.
This is the inverted version of it’s twin, ‘Withholding’. Although the two pieces were developed from the same image they are very different. Because of its light color composition, ‘Impermanent:’ is more hopeful than it’s twin. It was created to feel like a fleeting moment, maybe one that defines your identity, regardless of its temporary quality.

“Locket” 30 inches by 20 inches, Mixed Media Painting

As many of you know, this summer has been a tough one. This piece is titled Locket, inspired by my grandmother. It is my take on a jewelry box, one that is guarded, with sharp edges yet soft pillowy curves. In the far right corner is a portrait of a girl that has been cut away to reveal the ‘locket’ underneath.

I will be making a video this coming week about the deeper meaning of the piece (plus some of my fav parts of it!)

So stayed tuned 😉

I am so happy to share with you all ‘Intrusive Assembly’ One of many pieces in my newest series.

This piece features painted depictions of curved chrome surfaces on reflective vinyl, resulting in a fluid, luminous composition. Vertical structures rise through the piece, evoking abstracted figures in formation. Their upright, imposing posture conveys a sense of scrutiny—an assembly that feels both present and uninvited. This tension between viewer and “figures” inspired the title, Intrusive Assembly.

Hope you like it!
