In November 2017 I got an email from a group of U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan.
They were huge hockey fans and had built a makeshift rink on base using concrete barriers and leftover supplies. Sticks were broken and pucks were duck tape balls. But they were still out there every chance they got playing the game they loved.
They knew I was a big hockey fan and an even bigger supporter of our troops, so they asked a simple question:
“Any chance you could send us some sticks and pucks?”
I reached out to Fox Sports and together we put together a crate packed with gear. It took about a month to reach them but when it did it meant everything. I received personal messages I can’t share, but I’ll never forget the gratitude and pride behind their words. That base suddenly had real hockey games again.
