I thought about that often when I interacted with Jose, our mailman at the time. He hustled through his route like it was his mission to make everyone’s day a little brighter. He knew every neighbor by name, sent texts on Mother’s Day, Christmas, birthdays.

He was the best employee I never officially got to hire…until one day, I asked if he wanted to come work for us after he retired.
