This wet and needle felted scene created by Ann Discavage Laczak is full of vibrant colors and warmth at the same time. We can surely picture ourselves in that field of flowers admiring the beauty of the world.

Today, we are sharing an incredible piece depicting a coral reef - full of color, texture and beauty from Memory Bradley Art

"Not exactly fireworks, but an explosion all the same…
Coral Explosion, wool wall hanging, 28” x 27”, 2022

I have wanted to create a large wool wall piece for a while, but it was important to me that I tell a key story while utilizing all the techniques I have learned over the past couple of years. I landed upon the idea of creating a coral reef after reading the book “Inspired by Endangered Species: Animals and Plants in Fabric Perspectives” by Donna DeSoto. Each page of this book showcases a plant or animal that is at risk of extinction. It is an artist’s perspective and the message is how do we save them all?

This is my contribution should another volume in this masterful book be republished. The coral reef is beyond just a single species. It is, in fact, a home to many and as integral to the ocean as forest is to the earth. Promote and protect it as we don’t get a “do over” once these homes are lost.

Process/Materials: Wet and needle felted from Merino wool, silk hankies, silk, viscose, bamboo, Angelina fibers, sari silk, yarn, upcycled cotton and bits of fabric, wooden buttons/beads, nepps." - Memory Bradley

An absolute stunner!

This beautiful portrait of "Pele at Dawn" was felted by Noelle Russow of Gleeful Ewe

"I have finished working on Pele at Dawn! 18x22. For you astronomy buffs, note the little rhinestone position (east of the sun), to indicate this is a sunrise not a sunset as Kilauea is on the East side of Hawaii. I am considering adding some embroidery stitching to the flames. I am extremely pleased with how this piece turned out. I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has been following my progress and leaving such wonderful compliments! She comprised 78hrs of work in total. For the plumerias it took 2.5 days, due to failed attempts in wet and needling, and I finally made them from silk. Debating about adding one to her hair (by the “ear”). I cut, colored, and joined each petal to create the flowers. Then, hand sewed in some raffia for a little extra touch." - Noelle
