E3 Alliance staff Priscilla Flores, Policy Analyst and Lauren Thomas, Director of Collaborative Action, presented to UTeach-Liberal Arts students taking the “Intro to Teaching Profession” course.
The dynamic duo shared regional data on student attendance and engagement trends while encouraging the UTeach students to think critically about how to use data to inform their practice.
UTeach-Liberal Arts is a professional secondary teacher preparation program for The University of Texas at Austin undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students planning to teach English (7-12), languages other than English (EC-12), social studies (7-12), or history (7-12). Its four-semester program aims to transform secondary school teacher certification from the ground up with a balanced practical and theoretical approach to teacher preparation.

On this first day at E3 Alliance, Richard Tagle reflects on his excitement at joining the E3 Alliance family.
Richard Tagle will start Jan. 16 as E3 Alliance’s next president and executive director. We welcome him aboard!
Susan Dawson founded E3 Alliance on May 1, 2006, serving as president and executive director for nearly 18 years. “It has been an honor to lead the organization, and I am proud of our accomplishments in improving Texas education and outcomes. As I transition to president emeritus, I look forward to leading the advanced manufacturing initiative while working with our new leader, Richard Tagle.” said Dawson
E3 ALLIANCE SELECTS RICHARD TAGLE AS NEW PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Austin, Texas (January 4, 2024) – The Board of Directors for E3 Alliance proudly announces the appointment of Richard Tagle as the organization’s new president and executive director. A visionary and strategic leader rooted in public education and nonprofit work, Richard will succeed Susan Dawson, founder, and assume responsibilities on January 16.
Tagle is joining E3 Alliance from Denver Public Schools Foundation, where he served as president and CEO and strengthened alignment between school district priorities and Foundation investments. Before this post, he served as the CEO of the Andy Roddick Foundation in Austin, Texas, for nearly a decade.
“After meticulous succession planning and search process, the board is pleased to select the most ideal candidate to lead E3 Alliance into the future,” said Board Chair Amber Carden, Managing Director of Bank of America Private Bank, Private Wealth Management.
Selection Committee Chair Dr. Charles Martinez, Dean of the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin, added, “Richard’s track record in systems transformation and equitable education opportunities for all, combined with his exceptional leadership in developing and executing a highly strategic plan and facilitating relationships with key stakeholders, makes him uniquely qualified.”
“I am honored and grateful to the board for the incredible opportunity and responsibility to lead E3 Alliance and follow in the footsteps of Susan Dawson,” said Tagle. “E3 Alliance has had tremendous impact on the education community throughout Central Texas and across the state. I am thrilled to return to Austin to lead this well-respected, successful nonprofit and collaborate with the remarkable educators, business, and community leaders that partner with E3.”
Tagle holds a master’s degree in social policy/applied sociology and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from American University in Washington, DC. His three decades of community service work centers on student learning and advancements, serving on boards with Grantmakers in Education, College Forward, and other education, nonprofit, and health organizations.
“I am delighted with this selection after an extensive and thoughtful search,” explained Susan Dawson, 2020 Austinite of the Year and soon-to-be president emeritus of E3 Alliance, who will continue to lead the student-to-workforce initiative for the organization. “After over 17 years of leading E3 Alliance, I am enthusiastic about our future with Richard at the helm. His commitment to public education as a cornerstone of a civil and democratic society and his understanding of communities' crucial roles align perfectly with our mission. His relentless pursuit of outcomes-based, data-driven strategies and his passion for collective impact will greatly contribute to our future progress.”
Many sincere thanks to our supporters who rallied around many beneficial causes with us during the 2022-23 academic year, specifically, our advanced manufacturing end-of-the-year campaign. Your efforts will help revitalize the student-to-workforce pipeline and reach our goal of enrolling 1,750 new students in advanced manufacturing programs by the 2024-25 school year.

Transforming education systems through data and collaboration so all students succeed!
None of this is possible without your support, so thank you for being an essential part of the E3 Alliance family. We appreciate your hard work and commitment to help impact the Texas education system and wish you all the best in the coming New Year!
1,2,3 signifies a special kind of fresh start.
If you haven’t done so, write out the date for the last day of the year in 2023, and you'll find that the countdown to the new year comes with a unique kind of count this time around – 12/31/23 or 123123.
You likely associate the sequence with starting something. And just as in life, in numerology (a system that ascribes meaning to numbers beyond their mathematical value), the meaning of the number 123 is associated with new beginnings and an energizing call to action.
One is the number of beginnings, two is connected to our emotions and fun, and three is the work of learning and growth, according to Novalee Wilder, numerologist.
At E3 Alliance, we look to 2024 with excitement, hope, and a growth mindset as we collaborate with you, our partners, on ways to ensure all our Texas students succeed.
We are always grateful to garner support throughout Texas and reach those who believe in our work. This year, many of our supporters are excited about the future of our students and adults as the advanced manufacturing sector continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
However, we lack a robust pipeline for students to fill the 20,000 advanced manufacturing jobs expected over the next five years.
With only three days left to give this year, please consider a tax-deductible donation to support our Tiger Team's advanced manufacturing initiative!

A $50 donation will fuel our data analytics to help address gaps and build capacity in advanced manufacturing. At the same time, $250 will support faculty and essential credentialing to ensure the recognition of college credit-bearing courses. Additional levels will aid other aspects of this work and align with our shareholders.

Happy Holidays to you and those you love. Your commitment to furthering our mission significantly impacts how we serve Central Texas.
Wishing you a delighted holiday season.
As the year 2023 ends, we are excited about a new team leading the charge of an initiative that will have an extraordinary impact on our Central Texas students and economy.
We are thrilled to see the automated manufacturing drive being led by the Tiger Team.
The Tiger Team is a task force of industry, education, and community leaders ready to revitalize the student-to-workforce pipeline.
E3 Alliance formed this team after data revealed our education system needed to better prepare for the tremendous, advanced manufacturing job opportunities awaiting our Central Texas students.
With our Tiger Team leading this workforce initiative, we aim to build a pipeline of 10,000 students preparing for advanced manufacturing jobs expected over the next five years with students and adults from our schools and our region.
According to the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association, companies in the Greater Austin area must fill at least 20,000 new jobs in advanced manufacturing in the next five years.

Our President and Executive Director, Susan Dawson, recently participated in the Austin Chamber of Commerce 18th annual State of Talent & Education event. The gathering brought together speakers to discuss the current state of education and workforce development. Topics included fostering collaboration among the business community, policymakers, and educational institutions to enhance talent pipelines and workforce challenges, particularly in advanced manufacturing, which Dawson led.
Dawson and Kyle Seipp, Director of Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness, lead E3 Alliance’s Advanced Manufacturing Tiger Team, a task force eager to revitalize the student-to-workforce pipeline.
According to the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association, 2002, companies in the Greater Austin area must fill at least 20,000 new jobs in advanced manufacturing in the next five years.

What is Formative Assessment?
Formative assessment might be the best tool you can use in the classroom.
The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that instructors can use to improve their teaching and students to improve their knowledge. More specifically, formative assessments help:
-Students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work.
-Faculty recognize where students are struggling and address problems immediately.

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX-20) sought the expertise of our Senior Director of Communications and Policy Jennifer Cavazos Saenz on the Advanced Coursework Equity Act, bicameral legislation that would create a federal grant program to help states and school districts increase the enrollment of underrepresented students in advanced coursework and academic programs.
“E3 Alliance research has found that students who take four years of math in high school are twice as likely to get a postsecondary credential, such as a certificate or degree. Students whose fourth year of math is a college-aligned course are six times as likely to get a postsecondary credential, driving economic mobility for the next generation,” explained Cavazos Saenz.
"This is especially true for students from communities that are traditionally marginalized, with math success paving the way for higher-paying jobs that require a postsecondary credential. Congressman Castro and Senator Booker’s bill, which promotes equity in advanced coursework and programs at elementary and secondary schools, is a bold step forward for our education system. It is a policy based on evidence, equity, and opportunity that will help ensure that all students have the chance to reach their full potential and pave the way for economic mobility across the U.S.,” she continued.
According to the act, the Advanced Coursework Equity Act would allow eligible schools and school districts to receive up to $60 million to implement universal screening for advanced students, expand enrollment in advanced courses, cover course fees for low-income students, train or hire teachers for advanced courses, prepare students for postsecondary STEM pathways, and create or expand related efforts.
