Resigning is not always the safer option. 📚

When a school district proposes contract termination, educators are sometimes given a choice: resign or move forward with the termination process. While resignation may sound like the easier path, it can also mean giving up important opportunities to challenge the allegations and present your side of the story.

In this episode of Know Your Regulator, LaJuana Acklin explains why teachers should fully understand the consequences before making a decision that could affect their career.

There are 2 agencies involved in your teaching license case. ⚖️

In Texas, these cases do not go through just one place. The Texas Education Agency investigates the complaint, gathers evidence, and requests your response. Then the State Board for Educator Certification decides whether discipline will be issued, including reprimand, suspension, or revocation.

Understanding who does what matters when your license is on the line.

Many teachers assume a personal hardship automatically protects them from discipline. 📚

But in Texas, contract abandonment cases are evaluated based on specific rules, timelines, and documentation requirements. Even when a teacher has a legitimate reason for leaving mid-year, failing to follow the required process can still place their certificate at risk.

Understanding how these cases are reviewed can help educators avoid preventable mistakes before making major career decisions.

A school closure can affect your license path. 📄

When a massage therapy school is shut down, students may have to provide independent proof that they personally completed the required education hours before the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation will consider those hours for licensure credit.

Even students who already completed their training may still be impacted if the school’s records can no longer be verified.
