Traffic on Interstate 75 south of Macon, Georgia, was moving at 70 miles an hour on a Monday morning when trucker Marvin Tate spotted a small white dog darting between the lanes ahead of him. Cars swerved around it, and one pickup missed it by inches.

Marvin has hauled freight for 27 years. He flipped on his hazards, braked hard and let his rig drift sideways until the trailer blocked all three southbound lanes. Behind him, everything stopped.

By then the dog had crawled up against the concrete barrier in the median and wouldn't budge. Climbing down from the cab, the big trucker walked out across the empty lanes and got down on his knees on the asphalt, talking low the whole time. It took him four minutes to get close enough to scoop the little terrier up.

He carried the dog back to his cab wrapped in his jacket. When a state trooper arrived, he found a line of cars two miles long and a trucker sitting on his step with a shaking dog in his lap.

Bo's tag had an address in Warner Robins. His owner is 84 and had left the gate open by accident while rolling out her trash can. The trooper drove Bo home himself.

That delivery ended up three hours late, and the company docked his pay for it. Once the trooper's dash camera video made the rounds, they paid it back. Should his company have docked him at all?
