Day 5 Post Beryl
No power. Forever grateful to my brother for insisting I buy a whole house generator.
Grateful for my cooler house.
So grateful to have my friend and her dog with me this week. She had cooked for me everyday. Feeling lucky in the midst of surreal times.
That said, growing weary. Internet came back yesterday. Still spotty and unreliable but degradation on zoom is a small price to pay
Cell service is still iffy but growing stronger.
Power is slowly returning although not to our street. Had a scare last evening. Neighbors came together and MOCO is now patrolling.
Lineman are rolling in and we are so grateful. Centerpoint has created a mess that will take years to correct.
Houston is the 4th largest city. We should be doing better. Years of neglect, corruption and bad voting have brought this city to its knees. Seeing some of the pressers are beyond comprehension. I hope people consider this at voting time. It’s time for massive change… starting with infrastructure and emergency management. A Cat 1 has crushed this city on top of the destruction from only two months ago w massive wind. Grateful to live out of the city…but we all are reliant on city structure. It’s time for change. If this doesn’t demonstrate this…. Nothing will.
First responders are stretched and tired. They have done an amazing job while their own homes and families are suffering without electricity as well.
We are seeing some crazy behaviors, desperation and opportunists
Neighbors are pulling together. Have met so many amazing folks pulling together to protect the collective.
Tired, weary but grateful, feeling blessed and eyeing opportunity for a better future.
Continued prayers, assistance for those in need and understanding are the most needed. Check in on your family and friends. They are probably not okay even tho they say they are. Many are returning to work today with pets, children or elderly in hot homes.
We are surviving and we will thrive. I am hoping the Saharan dust keeps hurricane activity at bay … not just for Houston but for our whole Texas coastline.
Enjoy your moments, breathe deep, this too shall pass. Day 5.. rain and storms expected today. Continued prayers for the city of Houston and surrounding areas.

Was honored to have a full city tour of Magnoia Texas, its ETJ and learn about all the growth, development and opportunity. I LOVE living here. New Home Inventory Analysis

The latest changes to the Texas homestead laws that took effect in 2024.
Increased Exemption: The homestead exemption has seen a significant increase. Previously, homeowners could subtract only $40,000 from their home’s value for school tax rates. Now, this exemption has jumped to a whopping $100,000! This means the first $100,000 of your home's assessed value is exempt from school district taxation.
Benefits for Over 65 or Disabled: If you're over 65 or disabled, there's extra good news. Your school taxes are capped, and with the new amendment, your tax bills can decrease as school tax rates go down.
How it Affects You: To put it in perspective, if your home is valued at $350,000, you used to pay taxes on $310,000 with the old exemption. With the new change, you'll only be taxed on $250,000 of that value – a significant saving!
Eligibility: Remember, you must own and occupy your home as your principal residence to qualify, and it's applicable only to individual homeowners.
Application Deadline: Don't forget, the deadline for applying for these exemptions is April 30th of the tax year you're applying for. Once granted, you generally don't need to reapply unless requested by the appraiser.
