I’m losing a battle with ragweed this week, but I felt compelled to share this song with you and tell this story for a woman who is no longer here to tell us herself. I wrote this with Jess Cayne Laci Kaye Booth and Dave Cohen a few years ago.

I just had an experience with Lyft where I got home and reported an unsafe driver. He kept turning around to examine me up and down, and asked three times if the place he was driving to was “home.” I lied and said I was meeting friends. When I reported it, Lyft warned me about taking action on my account if the report was false. I told them that was disconcerting, inappropriate and misogynistic to mention in the same conversation about my safety, and they closed the chat.

This is such a common experience for women. What do we do when the people we run to for help blame us, brush it off, or choose not to believe us? Dealing with that is painful and damaging to say the least. How many times do we have to tell these stories before we aren’t here to tell them ourselves? What DO we have to do to rewrite it?
