Austin Taiko
Austin Taiko is a performance group that is dedicated to the ancient Japanese art of synchronized percussion. Taiko means, "Great Drum". austintaiko.com
Feel the primal rhythms of this great traditional art form, performed with a unique Austin flair. Taiko (Japanese drumming) combines dynamic percussion rhythms and energetic choreographed movements. A show is performed using large wooden drums, various percussion instruments, & voice accents. Players perform traditional and original pieces. Hands-on and/or audience discussion follow-up may be arranged. Austin Taiko frequently performs for community, educational and private events.

Having fun with Rosedale students and staff. Rosedale has been our favorite place to perform in that there’re always many dancers in the audience shaking to the rhythm.
Thank you, Rosedale! Have a great summer!

Such a fun afternoon at Daryl Howard’s ranch. In between our performances, we get to enjoy her Japanese woodblock prints, mingle with her collectors and guests and have some amazing foods prepared by Hayes High School students.
And we get to feed several longhorns at the ranch! Their horns are massive and scary but they seem to care more about their foods than anything else.

Austin to Lubbock, in the rain.
The trip was off to a rocky start. Seats of the 15-person passenger van don’t fold down so we had to somehow manage to shuffle the drums in without getting wet. Lubbock was surprisingly dry and cool.
Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail is such a cool event. This is the 2nd time Austin Taiko came to perform and we just LOVE coming here. It’s definitely worth the 6-hour boring drive.

We had a lot of fun performing for Austin Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, even though it’s a hot and humid day. Then we head to Bob Bullock Museum for its 25th anniversary (and it’s strong AC). Long but a joyful day.

It’s been a very busy couple of months for Austin Taiko. We had performed at Highland Park Elementary, Hill Country Middle School, ACE Tournament and Belmont Village Senior Living. Very different groups of audience but with same enthusiasm for taiko beat.
We’re grateful for all that invite us and we love to share this beautiful art form with y’all.
