Parallelogramophonograph
Parallelogramophonograph is a theatre company based in Austin, TX that improvises plays. http://www.hideouttheatre.com/shows/PGraphPresents
Since their premier in November of 2005, Parallelogramophonograph has been more than just any improv troupe. Fiercely dedicated to the craft and art of improvised theatre, PGraph has held a weekly show non-stop since 2006. Early on in their time together Kaci Beeler, Kareem Badr, Roy Janik, and Valerie Ward knew they wanted to do something different onstage. Intrigued by the challenge of telling f

Hey y'all, it's been a few weeks, but it still feels weird to not be doing our Thursday show tonight.
We're looking forward to getting back on the stage again. And seeing all of you.
Enjoy this hasty collage from our final show at 617 Congress.

We’re honestly not ready for this.
To lose our weekly space and slot.
To not have this green room to get ready in, to catch up a bit before we go onstage.
But we all know loss and we know how to adapt.
This Thursday (tomorrow) at 8pm is our last show at 617 Congress Ave. After 20 years of shows there and 16 years of a weekly show.
You’d think that would be enough! But it’s our life’s work and we do it one night at a time.
An improvised play. No pre-planned plot, characters, relationships, or even a pre-decided format to follow. We make it all up as we go along - including the pacing, tone, and style. We love that. The freedom. We’ve made so many amazing, fully realized plays together. Steven Rutkowski is our one man tech wizard. Us onstage, him in the booth. That’s it.
We’ve had such an incredible year of shows since we found out the space was being shut down. Like it lit a fire under us or something.
Tickets are selling fast for this Thursday. Link in the comments.
A big thanks to the 40+ pals who came out to our penultimate show tonight to watch us perform “A Bologna Sandwich.”- a good ole cafe crime comedy.
We’ve already got 26 presales for next week’s final show, so grab your ticket soon.
When we finished our 3.5 year run at ColdTowne in 2010, we called it “The Heat Death of the Universe.” What should we call this one?

Maybe this photo by Steve Rogers accurately describes our feeling at being kicked out of our theater at the end of the month (where we’ve had weekly residency since 2010) - we know we’ll keep performing regularly (location / time TBA) but this had become our home. That said - for now, we’ve got TWO SHOWS left at the Hideout Theatre downtown location.
Tonight March 12th - 8pm
Next Thursday March 19th - 8pm

Well, we're down to the last three shows in our historic run at 617 Congress.
We've been doing a weekly show at The Hideout Theatre's downtown location since March 2010!
Due to the whims of a lawyer who wants to open a bar, the building is going away, and our final show will be March 19th.
We obviously are going to continue performing, but as The Hideout reorganizes and regroups, we don't know what that will look like quite yet.
Regardless of what the future holds, this is the end of an era. It'd mean the world to us if you stopped by for one of our last shows at the place that's been our home for a long, long time.

We had a fantastic show last week and this week will be no different! (except Eddie Izzard won’t be there) Only *5* chances to catch us before the Hideout Downtown location shuts down for good (unless we have to cancel a show due to SXSW crowds).
The Austin Chronicle recently called us “comedy royalty” and the downtown Hideout theater our “throne room”. It is a very special place to us. The place we’ve felt the most free to do all kinds of styles and works. We joke that we’ve done every permutation of parent/child/lover/friend/boss/villian/victim/animal/object with each other over and over through the years.
But we keep finding new things all the time.

Had the great pleasure & honor of performing our improvised play last night for Suzy (Eddie) Izzard(!) - the title was “Wellspring of Rage” about a couple who goes on vacation retreat in the jungle to rekindle their relationship, and it’s slowly revealed that the wife has something monstrous lurking inside of her. So it was comedic, but also a bit of a body horror thriller. 😈🩸🗡️
What a dream come true to perform for a true comedy legend and then chat about the industry afterward. She’s on tour doing her incredible solo Hamlet show. Definitely check it out!!
